“Um pequenino grão de areia,
Que era um pobre sonhador,
Olhando o céu viu uma estrela,
Imaginou coisas de amor…Passaram anos muitos anos,
Ela no céu, ele no mar,
Dizem que nunca o pobrezinho,
Pode com ela se encontrar.Se houve ou se não houve
Alguma coisa entre eles dois,
Ninguém soube até hoje explicar,
O que há de verdade…
É que depois, muito depois…
Apareceu a Estrela do Mar.”
This is an old song, in portuguese, that my grandma used to sing to me when I was a little kid. I cannot remember the author, neither can mum, so, if anyone knows, please tell us!
The song tells a love story… the story of a grain of sand, who was a fool dreamer and one day, looking up at the night sky, saw a bright shiny star and fell in love with it. According to the song, years and years went by, him in the sea and she up in the sky, and no one could ever know if something actually happened between the two of them, the only thing that is known for sure, is that a long time after all this, there came the sea-star (that’s the way we call the starfish, in portuguese).
We think this story represents well our message of connection between sea, land, and sky… the links and cycles of the universe. And love, the big unexplicable thing that – want it or not – drives our actions and puts us together.
Manu.

Hi Manu, I don’t know how old this post is, but I’m replying to it anyway.

I was looking for the tale based on this song. But it apparently doesn’t exist on internet yet.
The tale is beautiful. I was wishing to find it here, but I guess I’ll have to buy the book. You mgiht want to read it, if you like the song.
The book is called ‘The Sea Star’ by Celia Wolff.
And the name of the song in Portuguese is:
Estrela do mar
Authors:
(Marino Pinto e Paulo Soledade)
Hope I managed to help somehow.

Hola Soledad!
Thank you so much for your input! I’m really glad you wrote, now I can give the proper credits to the authors!
It’s great to know that there is a book about the tale. I’ll look for it too and I’ll let you know if I have any success!
Thank you once more!
